Zombies Wars is the sequel to Alien Carnage/Halloween Harry, and was self published by Interactive Binary Illusions (Who had changed their name Gee Whiz Software for this and all future releases). Because of this Apogee/3D Realms had nothing to do with it, and it was not actually released as shareware. Instead, the game was actually sold via two methods.
The first was via crippleware...that is, you downloaded the full version of the game, but all levels apart from 1 level that was exclusive to this release were locked off. (Hence "crippleware"). To unlock the full game, you purchased a code which would unlock the game's remaining levels.
The second release was a standard boxed version sold via regular retails channels, though this version did not include the demo level that the crippleware release featured.
Zombie Wars was actually designed to run through Windows 95, so sadly it is impossible to run through Windows XP (Though some folks have tried to get it working, see my forums). It does work with Windows 98, so I recommend installing either 95 or 98 and setting it up to dual boot with a more recent operating system...or just do what I do and keep an older PC with 98 available so the game can be played :) (NOTE: At the moment I do not have access to run Zombie Wars, so content from this game is limited. I have however, uploaded the intro and ending videos from the game (which were stored on the CD in avi format) to YouTube, and have them listed here. Enjoy!
